1, 254 Ethiopian Migrants Repatriated from Saudi Arabia today

ADDIS ABABA – About 1, 254 Ethiopian migrants have returned home from Saudi Arabia on Monday as the government continues its repatriation effort this week.

Ethiopia started repatriating its nationals living in difficult situations in the gulf nation on March 30, with a plan to bring 102,000 of its nationals within ‘5 to 11 months’.



Today, three planes with a total of 1, 254 aboard have arrived at Addis Ababa Bole international airport, the spokesperson office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said.

At least 340 women and 154 children are among today’s returnees, the spokesperson office added. The new arrivals bring the number of Ethiopians repatriated from the gulf nation to more than 14, 000.

The ongoing repatriation process is led by a national committee composed of 16 government agencies.
