Abiy Holds Phone Conversation with PM of Canada

ADDIS ABABA – Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed, on Saturday held a phone conversation with his Canadian counterpart, Justin Trudeau, over bilateral issues.

The conversation came on the heels of a historic pressure from Western countries, spearheaded by the US, on Ethiopia.



In a brief message posted on Twitter, Prime Minister Abiy said the various bilateral issues were discussed during the phone conversation with Trudeau.

“Productive phone call with Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau on bilateral issues,” Abiy said.

“I would like to thank Prime Minister Justin for his sincere friendship and support to Ethiopia,” the PM added.

Trudeau is the second leader of western country Abiy talked to this week.

On Monday, the PM held similar discussions with his Swedish counterpart, Stefan Löfven  during he which he appreciated the European nation “for the lasting contribution to Ethiopia’s reform journey”.

The discussion,  among other issues, was touched up on the security situation in northern Ethiopia. Löfven called the conversation he had with the Abiy “constructive: and reiterated “necessity for all parties to cease fire, engage in solution & ensure humanitarian access”, among others.
