Abiy Visits Lemi Cement Project in North Shoa

ADDIS ABABA – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has visited a Lemi Cement plant construction project in the North Shoa Zone of the Amhara Region.

When completed, the plant will produce 10,000 tons of cement per day at full capacity and become the largest cement factory in Ethiopia.

Abiy visited the Lemi Cement project on Friday morning along with former Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn and other government officials.

After the visit, the Prime minister said the Project “is one of many landmark projects that will bridge us to the future Ethiopia we aspire for.”

The $600 million project was launched last year as a Joint Venture between Ethiopia’s East African Holding and West China Cement Ltd.

The factory is located in North Shoa’s Ensaro district – 130 km north of Addis Ababa.

“North Shoa possesses great potential and such large scale projects in line with Ethiopia’s aspirations will support unleashing this potential,” Abiy said.

Officials expect private sector development in the prioritized sectors of mining, agriculture, tourism and ICT to boost the economy.

“Those that invest on the principles of large scale orientation; quality and speedy delivery are key partners for us,” Abiy said.
