China Keen to Boost Ties with Ethiopia in Industrialization Sector

ADDIS ABABA – Chinese top envoy in Ethiopia has expressed Beijing’s readiness to further strengthen cooperation with Ethiopia in the field of industrialization.



Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia, Zhao Zhiyuan concluded his visit to Amhara, Sidama and SNNP Regions as well as Dire Dawa city administration late last week.

During the visit, Zhao met with officials of the regions, and expressed China’s willingness to work with the regions in strengthening cooperation in the field of industrialization.

“We stand ready to strengthen cooperation with Ethiopia in the field of industrialization, which will create more jobs and bring more benefits to us,” the ambassador said in a message posted on the embassy twitter account today.

He also pledged to encourage Chinese companies to increase investment, fulfill corporate social responsibility, create more jobs and bring more benefits to local people.



Officials of the regions welcomed the pledge and praised the contributions made by China to local economic development, according the reports of state news agencies.

China is by far the top investor in Ethiopia.

Between 1998 to March 2020 alone, reports say Chinese companies executed about 1,564 investment projects with a cumulative investment capital worth over $1.153 billion.

Over 1,130 of these projects are engaged in the manufacturing sector, according to the Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC).
