Coronavirus: Ethiopia Registers 205 New Cases, 8 Fatalities

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded 205 more Covid-19 cases and eight related fatalities on Monday, according to the ministry of health.

The country confirmed the new positive infections after testing 5, 296 people in the last twenty-four hours, says the Ministry in its daily Covid-19 report.

The national death toll has also reached 6, 467 after 8 more patients lost their lives to the acute respiratory disease in the reported period.

There are now 414 seriously ill Covid-19 patients nationwide, says the report. The patients are among 18, 652 confirmed active cases in the country.

The ministry has also reported the recovery of 509 patients from the disease, bringing the recovery count to 340, 251.

Ethiopia identified its first Coronavirus case in March, last year. To date, it has confirmed 365, 372 infections after testing more than 3.7 million people.

Its Health officials are currently carrying out a nationwide immunization campaign.

Nearly 71, 500 doses of Covid-19 vaccine have been provided to the public in the past 24-hours, reports the Ministry.

The ongoing vaccination drive started on March 13, 2021. Since then, the country has fully vaccinated a total of 3, 551, 276 people while offering more than 4.8 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine.

The immunization push against Covid-19, which involves AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson and Sinopharm vaccines, targets to vaccinate about 22 million people by January.
