ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has confirmed 146 more novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) infections on Thursday, bringing the country’s case tally to more than 278, 000, shows data from the Ministry of Health.
In its daily Covid-19 report today, the Ministry said the nation conducted at least 4, 632 tests in the past twenty-four hours to identify the positive cases.
Additional three people have lost their lives due to the acute respiratory disease, pushing the national Covid-19 death toll to 4, 363.
The number of severe cases continues to increase in the past ten days.
There are now 160 seriously ill patients who are receiving treatment in Covid-19 medical centers, claims the report that puts the confirmed active cases count at 11, 048.
About 104 patients have also recovered from the disease in the past 24-hours, the report shows.
Ethiopia confirmed its first Coronavirus infection on March 13, 2020. Since then, it has tested over 2.97 million people to identify a total of 278, 105 cases.
About 262, 692 of these patients have already recovered, according to today’s report.
The report also claims a little over 8, 000 doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered on the day as health officials continue to push ahead with their immunization push.
To date, the country has offered a total of 2, 155, 657 vaccines, mostly AstraZeneca, to its citizens.
Ethiopia launched the vaccination campaign on March 13 – a week after they received 2.2 million AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX Facility.
The country also obtained additional 400, 000 AstraZeneca vaccine from the COVAX as well as 500, 000 doses of Covid-19 Sinopharm and 453, 600 Doses of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 Vaccine doses from the governments of China and the United States, respectively.
