Covid-19: Ethiopia Records 190 Cases, Offers Nearly 500, 000 Vaccine Doses

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has reported 190 more novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) infections on Tuesday as health officials provided nearly 500, 000 doses of vaccine to the public.

In its daily Covid-19 report, the Ministry of health said the latest positive cases were identified from 7, 049 tests conducted in the past twenty-four hours.



Ethiopia’s coronavirus-related death tally has reached 6, 704 after eleven patients of Covid -19 died due to the acute respiratory disease in the same period, reveals the ministry’s daily report.

There are now 231 severely ill covid-19 patients in the country, the report shows. The patients are among 16, 247 confirmed active cases in the nation.

In the same period, 627 patients have recuperated from Covid-19, pushing the recovery tally to 347, 569.

Since the confirmation of the first case in March, last year, Ethiopia has confirmed 370, 522 Coronavirus infections after conducting over 3.83 million tests.

– Spike in vaccine offer –

Health officials are urging the public to observe the health protocols put in place to tackle the pandemic including wearing face masks while intensifying the national vaccine drive which has recently stepped up with a launch of a two-week long campaign last week.



To date, the East African nation has offered close to 6.3 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine to the public. Of these, a total of 486, 231 doses have been administered in the past twenty-four hours, according to the report.

Ministry of health started offering the Covid-19 vaccine on March 13, 2021. So far, more than 4.85 million people have been fully vaccinated against the virus.

The ongoing national vaccination campaign, which involves Johnson & Johnson, AstaraZeneca, Pfizer and Sinopharm vaccines, targets to inoculate as many as 22 million people by January.
