Covid-19: Ethiopia Records 321 New Infections as 224 Patients Recover

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has registered 321 new novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) infections while 224 patients recovered from the disease on Wednesday, says the ministry of health.

The country confirmed the latest positive cases after testing 5, 730 people in the last twenty-four hours, indicates the ministry in its Covid-19 report.

A further 8 people have also lost their lives due to the acute respiratory disease in the reported period. The country’s national death toll now stands at 6,490.



Currently, there are 18, 189 active cases nationwide. Of which, the report says 423 of them are severely sick.

It also confirms at least 224 patients have regained their, pushing the total number of recoveries to 341, 412.

Ethiopia confirmed its first Covid-19 case in March, last year. Since then, it has identified a little more than 366,000 infections after conducting more than 3.71 million tests.

Its health officials are still strongly urging the public to observe the health protocols put in place to tackle the pandemic including wearing face masks as they continue to push ahead with the national immunization campaign.



On Wednesday, at least 36, 182 doses of Covid-19 vaccine were offered to the public, reveals the Ministry’s report.

The East African nation began the vaccination drive on March 13, 2021. To date, it has fully inoculated more than 3.6 million people against the Covid-19 while providing more than 4.9 million doses of vaccine.

The ongoing campaign, which involves Johnson & Johnson, AstraZeneca and Sinopharm, targets to inoculate as many as 22 million people by January.
