Covid-19: Ethiopia Records 688 New Cases, 11 Deaths

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has registered 688 more cases of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) cases after testing 5, 173 people in the past twenty-four hours, the ministry of health’s report for Monday reveals.

The latest fresh infections have pushed the national confirmed case tally to nearly 290, 000.



According to the report, a further eleven deaths have also been announced today, bringing the total number of people who lost their lives since the first case reported on April 15, last year, to 4,489.

The figure is the highest health officials reported in a single day since mid-June although a similar number of people died last Saturday.

Similar to the daily death toll, the number of severely ill patients has increased by 46 as compared to the previous day.

The national active cases tally has now reached 19, 882. About 434 of these patients are severely ill, says the report.

As many as 218 patients have also recuperated from the disease in the 24-hours, taking the national recovery tally to 265,589.

Ethiopia, which identified its first Coronavirus infection on March 13, last year, has conducted more than 3.12 million tests to confirm the 289, 962 cases.

On Monday, the ministry of health resumed its immunization push after reporting zero vaccination in the previous two consecutive days.

At least 3, 318 people have been vaccinated against the Covid-19 on the day, says the report, which puts the vaccine doses provided to the public, so far, at 2, 314, 394.

The East African nation launched its vaccination push on March 13 – a week after its health officials obtained 2.2 million AstraZeneca vaccine doses from the COVAX Facility.
