Covid: Ethiopia Records 22 New Infections, Severe Cases Drop

ADDIS ABABA – The Ministry of Health has reported 22 new infections of Covid-19 on Tuesday as the number of severely sick patients in Ethiopia drops to a single digit.

In its update today, the ministry said the latest positive cases have been confirmed from nearly 3,000 tests conducted in the last twenty-four hours.



The nation has recorded more recoveries than new infections in the reported period. Its recovery tally has reached 455, 711 after 320 patients recuperated from the disease on Tuesday.

On the same day, two seriously sick Covid-19 patients have been discharged from hospital, bringing the severe cases count down to a single digit for the first time in months.

Nine severely ill patients are still under medical observation, shows the report that puts the current active confirmed cases total at 7, 386.

The ministry says no one has died due to the virus in the reported period, extending the number of days without fatality to 13 days.

Health officials last confirmed a Coronavirus-related fatality on Wednesday, April 20, 2022. The Covid death toll currently stands at 7, 510.



The pace of the vaccination campaign has not shown any progress in the last 24-hours. Data from the ministry shows no doses of Covid-19 has been given to the public today.

Ethiopia has administered nearly 29.4 million COVID-19 vaccine doses since it launched the vaccine drive in March, 2021. More than 24.5 million of its citizens are fully vaccinated.
