ECMA Issues First Individual Securities Advisor License

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopian Capital Market Authority (ECMA) has issued the first individual securities investment advisor license to Habtamu Eshetu Gebre, a seasoned expert with 25 years of experience.

This milestone marks a significant step in advancing Ethiopia’s capital market, says the capital markets regulator.

Deloitte, an international consultancy, become the first entity to secure the license for operations in the East African country.

According to ECMA, Habtamu holds a Master of Business Administration from Addis Ababa University as well as certifications in financial markets and professional management competence.

Habtamu has 25 year working experiences in teaching, research, and consulting, including 11 years of managing his own business development and management consulting firm. He also has consulted various public and private entities, particularly in facilitating access to finance from the banking sector.

“We are proud to issue Habtamu a securities investment advisor license,” said Brook Taye, Director General of the ECMA. “This reflects our commitment to fostering a robust capital market in Ethiopia and providing investors with access to reliable and knowledgeable professionals.”

On the same day, the capital markets regulator encouraged other qualified professionals to enter the market and contribute to the development of Ethiopia’s capital market.

By bringing in more skilled and knowledgeable service providers, the ECMA says it aims to enhance the investment landscape and provide greater opportunities for investors.
