ADDIS ABABA – Eid-Al-Fitr holiday will be celebrated on Monday, the Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council announced today.
The month of Ramadan lasts for either 29 or 30 days, depending on when the crescent moon is seen, because the Islamic calendar is based on the lunar cycle.
The new crescent moon of Shawwal 1443 was not seen today, subsequently the month of Ramadan will last for 30 days this year, according to the Supreme Council.
Monday, June 2, 2022, will be the day of Eid-al-Fitr, the Council added.
Ahead of Eid al-fitr, tens of thousands of Muslims offered prayers and attended the Grand Iftar program on the last Friday of Islam’s Holy fasting month of Ramadan.
Guests from various parts of the world who responded to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s call for the Eid-to-Eid Great Ethiopian Homecoming also attended the prayer and Iftar program.
