ADDIS ABABA – Ethio Telecom has signed a strategic partnership agreement with Tele Mobile South Sudan Ltd as its officials visited Juba to explore the telecom market in the country.
The agreement allows the two firms to work in the area of international internet gateways/communication lines, telecom infrastructure expansion, telecom services provision, and other related services.
The strategic partnership agreement was signed during Ethio Telecom CEO Frehiwot Tamru’s visit to South Sudan this week.
In Juba, the CEO and her team discussed a range of issues with senior officials of South Sudanese telecom sector governing offices including the Information and Communications Ministry and the National Communications Authority.
The discussions were focused “particularly capitalizing on the telecom infrastructure demands and expansion projects that can be undertaken through cooperation of the two neighboring countries,” says Ethio Telecom in a statement.
South Sudanese authorities appreciated the initiative of Ethio telecom for exploring the telecom market in the neighboring nation.
The officials also affirmed their readiness to provide all necessary support to Ethio Telecom in this endeavor, the statement states.
Ethio telecom, a pioneering telecom operator in Africa, has been serving Ethiopia for over 128 years.
The company says its CEO Frehiwot shared Ethio Telecom’s experience in infrastructure expansion and management as well as the telco’s effort to ensure price affordability in Ethiopia.
Frehiwot also expressed Ethio Telecom’s interest to operate in South Sudan and support its government push to guarantee telecom services availability and affordability in the country.
Ethio telecom has conducted a feasibility study as part of its preparations to enter the South Sudanese telecom sector, according to its statement.
