Ethiopia Adds 46 New Covid Cases, Zero Deaths

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has logged 46 new cases of Covid-19 today as the country records zero related fatalities for over a week.

The latest infections identified in the last twenty-four hours bring the confirmed total in the nation, so far, to 492, 713, says a ministry of health update published on Friday evening.

Its recovery count has also reached 470,917, said the Ministry after adding only 22 recoveries today.

At least 14 severely sick patients of Covid-19 have remained in the hospital where they receive medical treatment. These patients are among the 14, 225 confirmed active cases in the country, according to the latest update.

No Coronavirus-related fatalities have been recorded in the past 24 hours as the number of days without confirmed covid death extends to eight.

The country last recorded a covid related death on Friday, August 4, 2022. The respiratory disease has caused the death of at least 7,569 people.

The public is being urged to be vigilant about the virus although the pace of vaccine drive in the country stagnated in recent days.

Ethiopia started offering the Covid-19 vaccine to its citizens in March 2021. To date, the country has administered more than 52.56 million doses of the vaccine.

Over 43.1 its citizens have been fully vaccinated receiving at least two shots of the vaccine, according to the Ministry of health’s report.
