Ethiopia, Azerbaijan Discuss Cooperation ahead of Non-Aligned Mov’t Summit

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Ethiopia, Demeke Mekonnen, met with Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, to discuss cooperation on various areas.

Deputy Prime Minister Demeke is in Azerbaijan today to attend the Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement Contact Group in response to COVID-19, set to begin on Thursday.

Ahead of the summit, Demeke and his Azerbaijan’s counterpart Bayramov held talks in Baku today.

The two sides discussed prospects for cooperation between the two countries in economic, trade and humanitarian spheres.

The two ministers emphasized on the need to build on the growing bilateral ties by cooperating in multilateral fora, Ethiopian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

They highlighted the importance of organizing reciprocal visits and holding political consultations at the level of foreign ministries.

Demeke said Ethiopia is interested in cooperating with Azerbaijan in defense and security, capacity building through technology, and the public sector.

The deputy Prime minister further invited Azerbaijani investors to participate in investment options found in the East African country.

Azerbaijan’s FM appreciated Ethiopia’s responsible leadership in resolving the conflict in northern Ethiopia peacefully, the statement read.

Azerbaijan will continue to sponsor Ethiopian students to study in the country’s higher education institutions, Bayramov added.
