ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has registered 2,144 fresh Covid-19 cases and 12 related fatalities on Monday, reveals a ministry of health report.
The country tested a total of 7,154 people in the last twenty-four hours to confirm the latest positive infections.
The report also claims 12 Covid-19 patients have passed away in the same period.
The disease has claimed at least 7,042 lives since the first Covid-related death recorded in the country on April 15, 2020.
There are now 74,697 confirmed active cases nationwide.
At least 280 of them are severely sick and are now receiving medical treatments in hospitals, according to the report.
It also claims as many as 1,074 patients have recuperated from the acute respiratory illness, pushing the recovery tally to 364, 527.
To date, Ethiopia reported 446, 268 Coronavirus cases – the highest registered in the East Africa region – after conducting nearly 4.2 million tests.
The ministry of health has resumed offering the Covid vaccine to the public today after a two-day long pause.
Close to 2,200 doses of Covid-19 vaccine have been administered in Ethiopia, taking the total doses administered to 10,569,315, reports the ministry.
The East African nation started giving the vaccine in Ethiopia on March 13 – a week after it received 2.2 million AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX Facility.
So far, It has fully vaccinated 9.36 million of its citizens.
