Ethiopia, Djibouti Explore Ways to Bolster Economic Ties

ADDIS ABABA – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and the visiting President Ismail Omar Guelleh held discussion on ways to further strengthen the bilateral economic relations between Ethiopia and Djibouti.



The bilateral talks, attended by top finance, transport and foreign affairs officials of the two countries, took place on the second day of Guelleh’s visit here.

Guelleh came to Addis Ababa on Sunday afternoon leading a high level delegation for a two-day state visit to Ethiopia.

Today’s discussion particularly gave emphasis on strengthening economic ties between the two neighboring countries promoting trade, agricultural investments, the PM Office of Ethiopia said.

Joint infrastructure development, tourism and energy were also among the top agendas of the meeting on Monday morning.

The Office said Abiy and Guelleh will continue exploring areas of “mutual concern over the duration of the visit”.



“President Guelleh and I are committed to capitalizing on existing foundations for mutual prosperity,” said Abiy after Monday’s meeting.

“The ties between our two nations are historical and broad based. It is not only neighborly ties, but familial.”

Prior to the bilateral meeting, President Guelleh visited the Head Office of the Information Network Security Agency (INSA) in Addis Ababa.

Guelleh was accompanied by Prime Minister Abiy during his visit to INSA Headquarters.
