Ethiopia, Indian Drug Manufacturer Discuss Vaccine Production

ADDIS ABABA – Health Minister Dr Lia Tadesse has held talks with a top official of Kilitch Drugs India Ltd, on ways to expand drug production in Ethiopia.

Kilitch, a leading manufacturer of injectables in India, recently started manufacturing cephalosporin injectables in its plant located inside Klinto Industrial park.

The company plans to export for African market after meeting the demand for the injectables in Ethiopia – estimated to 16 million vials per year.

Health Minister Dr. Lia, who met the Managing Director of Kilitch Mukund Mehta on Thursday, is keen for it to happen soon.

“Pleased to have met Mukund,” she said after her discussion with Kilitch’s Managing Director of in a brief message posted on twitter.

“We discussed on how to expand manufacturing including vaccine production In Ethiopia,” she added.

The Minister did not delve into the type of vaccine the two sides discussed.

Apart from injectables, the company produces Antiseptic and Disinfectant products in its plant in Ethiopia, supporting the East African nation’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
