ADDIS ABABA – The governments of Ethiopia and Italy have signed a cooperation framework agreement involving 180 million euros in the form of grants and soft loans.
The agreement was signed on the day that a senior Ethiopian government delegation led by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed embarked on a working visit to Italy.
Prime Minister Abiy and his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni, who signed the agreement, also discussed multifaceted ties and cooperation between the two countries.
In a tweet, Abiy said the discussion with Giorgia was productive.
The framework agreement “is essential to forging ahead with activities in our homegrown economic reform program and our ten-year perspective development plan,” he said.
The PM and his delegation were received by Italian President Sergio Mattarella upon arriving in Rome for the working visit on Monday morning.
The two sides discussed continued relations between Ethiopia and Italy as well as other current global and regional issues.
Prime Minister Abiy extended appreciation to President Sergio Mattarella for receiving his delegation.
“Ethiopian-Italian relations spanning over many decades have been long-standing and defined by a fruitful partnership. We will continue to enhance existing relations,” Abiy said.
