Ethiopia Logs 253 New Infections, Severe Cases Drop

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has today registered 253 new coronavirus infections as the cumulative severe cases decreasessignificantly, a ministry of health report shows.  

The ministry report, issued on Monday evening, says at least 101 patients have recuperated from the acute respiratory disease in the last 24 hours, taking the recovery total to 459, 717.



In the same period, at least 27 severely sick Covid patients have been discharged from hospitals after their conditions improved while two succumbed to Covid-19.

This has reduced the number of hospitalized patients to 46 from 75, the report noted.

The patients are among the 20, 435 confirmed active cases in the country where at least 7,532 people lost their lives due to Coronavirus.  

Health officials are still urging 12-year-olds and above to get the Covid vaccine shot to keep themselves and their loved ones safe from the deadly virus.



To date, Ethiopia has administered close to 52 million doses of the Covid vaccine. Over 82,000 of them were offered to the public today, the ministry of health report shows

More than 42.5 million people have also been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus.

The East African nation, which offered the first vaccine shot to its citizens in March last year, has a plan to achieve 60% COVID-19 vaccination coverage by the end of the 2023 calendar year.
