Ethiopia Records 1,669 More Coronavirus Cases, 24 Deaths

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has registered 1,660 more novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases on Thursday, bringing the national confirmed tally close to 329, 000, its ministry of health says.

In its daily report, the ministry says a total of 9, 725 tests have been conducted in the last twenty-four hours to identify the latest positive cases.

Further 24 people have lost their lives to the acute respiratory disease in the reported period, pushing the death toll to 5, 059.



The severe case tally has shown a slight increase after 28 more patients were admitted to ICU on Thursday.

Ethiopia currently has 28, 070 confirmed active Covid-19 cases. About 806 of these infected people are severely ill, the report confirms.

As many as 1, 049 patients have also recuperated in the reported period, taking the recovery count to 290, 604.

To date, the Ministry has conducted close to 3.36 million tests to confirm a total of 328, 735 cases, putting Ethiopia among the hardest hit African countries.

Health experts are still urging the public to keep themselves safe by wearing face masks, social distancing, proper hand washing as well as taking Covid-19 vaccines.

The country is offering Covid-19 vaccines in medical institutions as part of its national immunization campaign to control the pandemic.

On Thursday alone, close to 38, 000 Covid-19 vaccine doses have been provided to the public, the Ministry’s report claims.

Nearly 2.4 million Ethiopians received the vaccine since the country initiated the ongoing vaccination drive on March 13, 2021.
