Ethiopia Records 281 Covid Cases, One Death

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded more recoveries from Covid-19 than new infections today amid a spike in severe cases, according to the ministry of health.

In a report published on Friday evening, the ministry says additional 281 people have been digonized with Covid-19 in the last twenty-four hours, bringing the nation’s confirmed total to 489,005. 

At least 462, 545 of these Covid-19 patients have already regained their health, the ministry reports, after adding 840 more recoveries today.



It has also reported one Coronavirus-related fatality in the last 24 hours.  The national Covid-related death toll currently stands at 7,537. 

In the same period, seventeen more Covid patients have been admitted to the hospital after they become seriously ill, taking the severe cases tally to 74. 

These patents are among the 18, 921 confirmed active cases in the country, the report shows.

Despite an increase in recovery over the past couple of days, health officials are still urging the public to be vigilant and continue to advise 12-year-olds and above to get the Covid vaccine shot.



Ethiopia started offering Covid vaccine shots to its citizens in March of last year. Since then, it has administered 52 million doses of the Covid vaccine. 

Close to 62, 000 of these doses have been offered to the public in the last 24 hours, according to the latest update. 

The vaccine campaign so far has helped the nation to fully vaccinate at least 42.66 million people of its citizens, says the ministry whose officials plan to reach 60% COVID-19 vaccination coverage by the end of 2023.
