Ethiopia Registers 1, 119 New Covid-19 Cases

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded at least 1, 119 additional Covid-19 infections and 10 related deaths on Friday, its Ministry of Health reported.

Today’s COVID-19 case tally is one of the highest registered in a day since the start of 2021 in the country where the daily infection rate increased from 10% to 13% in recent weeks.

More than 7, 200 tests have been conducted over the past twenty-four hours to identify the new positive cases, according to the Ministry’s covid-19 report for Friday.

The report also shows at least 10 people have lost their lives due to COVID-related complications. The figure has pushed the national death toll to 2, 404 in a country health officials registered the first COVID-19 related death on April 15, last year.

The number of hospitalizations in the day has jumped by 35 as compared to the preceding day, according to the report.

About 427 patients are currently receiving medical treatment in hospital beds after they become severely ill. The country currently has 24, 236 confirmed active cases, health officials indicated.

Over the past 24-hours, they said at least 228 people have recovered from the respiratory illness, bringing the recovery tally to 137, 431.

The East African Nation identified its first coronavirus case on March 13, 2020. Since then, it has confirmed a total of 164, 073 infections after conducting nearly 2.17mln tests.
