Ethiopia repatriates 132 migrants from Beirut

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has airlifted 132 migrants from the capital of Lebanon, Beirut, on Wednesday morning. 

Senior Government officials accorded a warm welcome to the returnees upon their arrival at Bole International Airport.

“Today’s returnees are among the 3, 289 migrants scheduled to return to Ethiopia in the 9th round of the repatriation of migrants from Beirut,” said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.

The many Ethiopians left their home to find work in Lebanon with hopes of earning US dollars and supporting their families back home.

Lebanon’s current economic crisis has left many of these migrants without work and forcing them to travel back home.

Reports claim that an estimated 150,000 Ethiopian women in Lebanon, most having flocked there in search of jobs that pay as little as $150 a month.
