Ethiopia Repatriates 452 more Citizens from Saudi Arabia

ADDIS ABABA – The government of Ethiopia on Wednesday repatriated 453 undocumented nationals who were stranded in Saudi Arabia.

“As part of an ongoing effort to bring back Ethiopians in a difficult situation in Saudi Arabia home, 452 citizens including 120 children have been repatriated from the city of Jeddah today,” said the spokesperson office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday.

A senior official from the Ministry welcomed the returnees upon their arrival at the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport.

Ethiopia resumed repatriating its undocumented migrants held in the gulf nation’s detention centers late last week in collaboration with its aid partners.

Since then, it has brought back a total of 1,294 citizens, mainly women and children.

Addis Ababa repatriated nearly 42, 000 of its undocumented citizens who were detained in Saudi Arabia via 139 flights, between mid-June to the first week of last month.

The ongoing repatriation effort aims at bringing back people “who were not able to come to Ethiopia in the previously arranged mass flights,” according to the ministry.
