ADDIS ABABA — Ethiopia has registered 240 more novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases and 18 related deaths on Friday.
In its daily report, the ministry of health said the new positive infections were identified after conducting 6, 241 tests in the last twenty-four hours.
Additional 18 coronavirus-related deaths and 215 recoveries have also been recorded on the same period, pushing the death toll to 6, 601 and recoveries tally to 344, 113.
The country now has 17, 630 active cases, of whom 318 are severely ill, the report indicates.
Ethiopia, Africa’s second-most populous nation, has reported the highest COVID-19 caseload in the East Africa region since its first Covid-19 case in March, 2020.
It has so far confirmed 368, 346 Covid-19 cases nationwide after testing nearly 3.77 million people.
Health officials are urging the public to observe the health protocols put in place to tackle the pandemic including wearing face masks.
They are doing so while pushing ahead with a national vaccination campaign.
In the last 24-hours, the ministry reports about 5, 242 doses of Covid-19 vaccine have been offered to the public, pushing the total of doses administered in the county to 5,064,051.
The national immunisation drive started on March 13, 2021. To date, more than 3.67 million Ethiopians have been fully vaccinated against the virus.
