Ethiopia Reports 524 New COVID-19 Infections

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded 524 new COVID-19 infections on Thursday, pushing the nationwide confirmed cases tally to 361, 027, the Ministry Health reports.

The country  identified the new positive cases after 7, 340 people tested within a twenty-four hours period.



In its daily update, the ministry also reports 29 new COVID-19-induced deaths and 446 more recoveries during the same period, taking the death toll to 6,316 and total recoveries to 331,267.

There are now 23,442 active Covid-19 cases nationwide. Of which, the ministry says 518 are severely sick and are receiving medical treatment.

As the country records more cases than recoveries, experts are urging the public to observe the Covid-19 protocols put in place including wearing face-masks.

They are also being urged to take the Covid-19 vaccine made available in health facilities to protect themselves and their loved ones.

The East African nation has so far administered nearly 4.2 million Covid-19 vaccine doses. Of these, close to 64, 000 were administered on Thursday, according to health officials report.

The ministry started a national vaccination drive on March 13, this year– a week after they received 2.2 million AstraZeneca vaccines from the Covax Facility.

Ethiopia started inoculating its citizens on March 13, this year. To date, it has fully vaccinated more than 3,1 people against the virus.

The ongoing vaccination campaign also involves a range of vaccines including a one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine as well as Sinopharm.
