Ethiopia Signs 9.5mln Euros Grant Agreement with Finland

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia and Finland concluded a 9.5 million Euros grant agreement aimed at improving a rural land administration system in the East African nation.

The grant agreement was signed by State Minister of Finance Semereta Sewasew and Finland’s Ambassador to Ethiopia Sinikka Antila on Friday.

The Ministry of Finance says the grant will fund the implementation of the third phase of the Responsible and Innovative Land Administration (REILA-III) project.

The project aims for better land tenure security, incentives, and knowledge for smallholder farmers to invest in climate smart agriculture, and provide grounds in the long-term for improved livelihoods, income generation and climate resilience.

The REILA-III “will build on the previous phases of the project to strengthen the sustainability of the National Rural Land Administration and Information system,” said the Ministry. It “will further improve land governance and use of climate smart agriculture practices.”

The Finnish government has been supporting the project since its launch in 2011. Its financial contribution to the previous REILA I and REILA II phases amounts to more than 21million Euro, according to MoFin.
