ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia’s Walia Ibex will be based in Morocco in preparation for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) finals in Algeria.
Ethiopia will make a return to the CHAN for the first time since 2016 after failing to qualify for two consecutive tournaments.
Last week, Coach Wubetu Abate named a 28-man squad for the tournament in Algeria next month.
“The national team will travel to Morocco on Jan 4 to prepare for the CHAN tournament,” the Ethiopian Football Federation announced on Tuesday.
Wubetu’s players will camp in Morocco for a week-long preparation before heading to Algiers.
Ethiopia are pitted against the hosts Algeria, Libya, and Mozambique in group A for the tournament.
The team will first play against Mozambique, in Baraki Stadium, Algiers, on January 13, 2023.
Five days later on January 17, they will face the host of the tournament Algeria in Baraki Stadium.
The Walias will play their final group match against Libya in the 19 May Stadium in Annaba city on January 21, 2023.
