ADDIS ABABA – Huawei Ethiopia has today launched its second annual handshaking forum that aims at promoting jobs to graduate students. The two-day forum is organized in collaboration with Addis Ababa University at the Sidist Kilo Campus.
The tech firm says the forum is a part of its long-standing commitment to train and certify new graduates and equip them with the latest trends in the industry like Datacom, Artificial Intelligence, Storage, LTE, Bigdata, wireless LAN and other more.
Huawei is working in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and has opened an ICT academy in 42 private and government universities.
“After going through all the training and passing the exams,” Huawei would issue international certificates to the students.
In the second expo, Huawei plans to collect more than 500 resumes from new graduates from different universities.

More than 100 students got certified in Huawei ICT Certification this year.
At last year’s Forum, more than 600 resumes from science, engineering, math, and ICT professionals were collected and distributed to its partners based on their consent, to be recruited for potential job opportunities.
Huawei also has a special internship program allowing new graduates to intern for three-months at its Ethiopian head office .
During their stay, new graduates will acquire work experience, familiarize themselves with the work environment, and learn work discipline with a chance to secure a permanent job.
Last year, Huawei offered internships to over 250 new graduates and hired more than 200.
This year also has a plan to accept up to 300 new graduates; currently more than 90 interns are enrolling in the program.
“Huawei Handshaking forum enables new graduates and potential employers to meet in one place to practice better recruiting experience,” said Ye Liming, PR director at the Huawei Northern Region.
He also advised ICT and engineering students to attend the Huawei ICT academy courses and become internationally certified professionals.

There are 1159 Huawei-certified professionals while over 4395 students are registered at the Huawei ICT academies.
“Huawei will continue to bring innovative ICT solutions to Ethiopia,” said the company. “Actively promote the development of the ICT industry in the country, and jointly develop with local partners to build a fully connected Intelligent World.”
