Hult Prize on Campus Competition Underways at Addis Ababa University

ADDIS ABABA – The third-round Hult prize on-campus program, a part of the global student-centered entrepreneurship competition, has kicked off at Addis Ababa University today.

The event provides university students with business ideas to compete by pitching in ideas that could change social problems. The winning team will advance to the regional startup finals.

The Competition is taking place under a theme: “Challenging students to Redesign Fashion, launching an innovative social venture in the clothing and fashion industry to make it more sustainable”.

The last edition of the on-campus program concluded with a team of 4th-year students from Addis Ababa Science and Technology University advancing to the regional finals.

The team stood in first place for their app that facilitates on-campus food delivery services while creating job opportunities for students with financial limitations.

The program is now looking for students in the startup competition organized in partnership with Kazana Group, a local holding company with a portfolio of over 18 companies.

Kazana Group Manager Betelehem Tesfaye emphasized the role of the private sector in supporting youth entrepreneurship in the country.

“The private sector must be considered as the primary development agent that fosters an enabling environment for Ethiopia’s demographic dividend, mostly represented by the youth, to build innovative businesses and create much-needed job opportunities.’’

With a Million US Dollars global startup prize as its anchor activity, the Hult Prize brings in programs, events, and training to over a million students globally, creating a pathway for youth to take action to build a better world.
