Industrial Park Development Corporation (IPDC) and DP World, an Emirati multinational logistics company based in Dubai, held talks over collaboration in the development and management of a free trade zone in Ethiopia.
An IPDC delegation led by its CEO Aklilu Tadesse is currently on an official visit in the United Arab Emirates.
Today, the delegation visited the headquarters of DP World and met with Suhail Albanna, CEO and Managing Director Middle East and Africa in the company.
The two sides held a detailed discussion on various areas of possible cooperation, the IPDC said in a statement.
“In the discussion, mutual agreement was reached on constructive ideas to work together on the development and management of the Free Trade Zone and other related issues,” the statement read.
IPDC is making official visits and contacts in various countries to gain international experience and practices to make Dire Dawa Free Trade Zone effective and to establish other free trade zones.
Authorities officially opened Ethiopia’s first Free Trade Zone in the eastern city of Dire Dawa on August 14, 2022.
Its inauguration came a day after the government adopted a Special Economic Zone Policy that envisions for the establishment of similar projects across the nation.
