Justice Ministry Drops Charges against TPLF Leaders

The charges brought against civilian and military leaders of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) have been dropped, the Ministry of Justice announced on Thursday.

The ministry announced the decision 10 days after the parliament removed the TPLF from the terrorist organizations’ list.

The decision was made in line with the peace agreement signed between the federal government and the TPLF and taking international experiences into account, the ministry said in a statement.

The Ministry says the agreement outlines crimes related to the conflict to be dealt with in the framework of transitional justice.

Therefore, the statement says, the ministry has found it necessary to drop the charges against the civilian and military leaders of TPLF accused of suspected crimes.

The criminal charges that were presented in this regard and were in the process of legal proceedings have been dropped in accordance with Article 6 (3) of Proclamation 943/2008, it states.
