Kenenisa Bekele in Ethiopia’s Marathon Team for Paris Olympics

ADDIS ABABA – Veteran athlete Kenenisa Bekele has made it to the Ethiopian marathon team for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The Ethiopian Athletics Federation (EAF) has announced today the athletes who will represent their country in both the women’s and men’s Olympics event this year.

Kenenisa, who won his first of three Olympic golds in Athens 2004, is among the three athletes in the men’s final team.

The inclusion of Kenenisa, who will turn 42 next month, comes nearly a month after his second-place finish at the London Marathon in 2:04:15.



Alongside him, the 2024 Boston Marathon champion Sisay Lemma and the Beijing Marathon winner Deresa Geleta will run in Paris. The Athletics Federation has also listed Tamirat Tola and Eusedin Mohammed in the reserve.

Meanwhile, the World marathon recordholder Tigist Asefa will lead the women’s team at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The team also includes Amane Beriso, the World Athletics champion in Budapest, and Megertu Alemu, runner-up in the London Marathon last year.

The EAF put world Athletics silver medalist Goteytom H/silasie and Buze Diriba who finished fourth in the 2024 Boston Marathon, in the reserve.
