According to Haftom Kesete, the defendants’ solicitor, they were freed from prison this evening.
The individuals who have been freed include TPLF civil and military authorities who were charged with the same offence as Dr. Debretzion Gebremichael and Lt. Gen. Tadese Worede.
The TPLF Executive Committee members Mrs. Keria Ibrahim, Dr. Abraham Tekeste, and Dr. Addisalem Balema were among the defendants who were confirmed to have been released from prison and sent back to their homes today, according to the defence attorney.
The defence attorney indicated that the convicts were freed this evening after being transported by prison bus to the CMC residential facility, Piasa and Saris regions. Relatives who had been informed in advance that the inmates had been transferred to these locations are reported to have been present and to have welcomed the captives.
16 defendants from Dr. Debretzion’s file and 20 military commanders who were charged in Lt. Gen. Tadese’s case, according to attorney Haftom, were both freed today.
