Mineral Export Generates in $340mln in Six Months

ADDIS ABEBA – Nation has earned more than $340 million revenue from mineral export in the first half of this budget year, Deputy Minister of Mining said.

The total revenue is more than six times the amount recorded – 49mln US dollars – in the fiscal year 2018/2019, and more than what was earned last fiscal year, which was 207mln US dollars.

During the period, the country exported more than 4, 112kg of gold, 26.9 tons of tantalum, 1,625 kg of raw and 37.8kg of value added opal and 2,123kg of other gemstones, said Simegn Wube, State Minister of Mines and Petroleum.

Simegn said the industry has created employment opportunities for 48, 785 people during the past six months.

More than 1.7 billion birr worth industrial and construction minerals have been supplied to local markets during the period, according to the Ministry.
