Ministry of Mines, Turkish Firm Çalık Sign Natural Gas Exploration, Dev’t Deals

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia’s Ministry of Mines and Turkish company Çalık Holding signed three cooperation agreements including natural gas exploration and development in the East African nation.

The Memorandum of Understandings between the two sides were signed between the Minister of Mines Takele Uma and representatives of the Çalık holding and its subsidiary companies on Tuesday.



The agreements will pave a way for cooperation in natural gas exploration and development, fertilizer, and gold production in Ethiopia, according to Takele.

The signing of the three agreements between the two sides came weeks after a 13-person high-level delegation of the Turkish company visited Ethiopia to explore investment opportunities. 



During the visit, Minister of Mines and Calik Holding company chairman, Ahmet Çalık, agreed to work jointly engage in the development of natural gas and fertilizer production. 

“It is a great honor for us to be involved in projects that benefit the people of both countries,” the chairman said.

Çalık holding currently operates in the energy, construction, mining, finance, textile, and digital sectors in 31 countries across 5 continents, its website says.
