Ministry of Revenues Collects 147.3 Billion Birr in Five Months

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia’s Ministry of Revenues has collected over 147.3 billion Birr in taxes and duties over the past five months of the 2021/22 fiscal year.

The amount is 16.27% or 20.6 billion birr more than what was collected the same period of the previous year. Domestic taxes account for 93.1 billion Birr of the total while customs duties generated 54.2 billion Birr revenues.

Overall, the ministry achieved about 92.7 percent of the target set for the period, which was 158.9 billion birr.

In a statement today, minister of revenues Lake Ayalew said the five-month performance is “very much encouraging” considering three branches of the ministry are currently shut down due to security situation in northern Ethiopia and Coronavirus-induced challenges.
