ADDIS ABABA – Muslim faithful across Ethiopia are celebrating the1443rd Eid al-Adha holiday today.
The celebration on Saturday morning started with mass prayers in Mosques, major squares, and stadia. The mass prayers across the nation have ended without any problem, the Federal Police said.
Following the prayers, many also slaughter animals, a ritual honoring Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice Ismail as an act of obedience to God. The meat of sacrificed animals is shared with the needy.
On Friday, religious leaders Mufti Haji Omar Idris and Haji Ibrahim Tufa extended their best wishes to the faithful who celebrate Eid al-Adha.
Eid al-Adha is celebrated with love, unity, and brotherhood, they told ENA, adding that the Muslim community should preserve their Ethiopian unity and brotherhood.
The religious leaders also pointed out that Eid al-Adha should be celebrated by feeding the hungry, clothing, and supporting the needy.
Likewise, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed also extended his best wishes to all Muslims on Eid al-Adha in a letter posted on his social media account.
Ethiopians are celebrating this year’s Eid al-Adha in the midst of opportunities that test our strength, he said. “On the one hand, we are under attack by enemies who try to disrupt our peace and infiltrate us; and on the verge of moving the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) to the third filling and main stage looking at the hopes on the other.”
In his message, the PM urged not only Muslims but all Ethiopians to take the country out of the challenges it is facing and lead it to the desired success.
