Netherlands Grants 10.6mln euro for Cool Port Addis Project

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has signed a 10.6 million euros or approximately 647 million Birr grant arrangement with the Netherlands for the Cool Port Addis project Phase I.

The Cool Port Addis Project I is designed to alleviate bottlenecks hindering Ethiopia’s realization of its horticultural potential, per the Ministry of Finance.

Situated within the Modjo Green Logistics, Cool Port Addis is expected to provide an end-to-end solution, streamlining logistical processes for the entire avocado value chain and other fruits and vegetables.

The Netherlands is one of the leading investment partners to Ethiopia and an export destination for Ethiopian products.

Its latest grant would help realize the project which will create a smart and efficient agro-logistics ecosystem for perishable products in Ethiopia.

The grant arrangement was signed by State Minister Finance Semereta Sewasew and Netherlands’ Ambassador to Ethiopia Henk Jan Bakker in the presence of Transport and Logistics Minister Alemu Sime.

Multiple stakeholders from both Ethiopia and the Netherlands also witnessed the signing of the project agreement.

Ethiopian Horticulture Producer Exporters Association head Tewodros Zewdie was one of them.

He said: “This is an important milestone to ensure the competitiveness of Ethiopian horticultural crops.”

The project will be constructed inside the Modjo dry port. “This will give it an exceptional opportunity to seamlessly align with the Ethio-Djibouti Railway,” he said. “We need to have many more similar projects in the Country,” Tewdros added.
