NRC, CSOs Council Agree to Collaborate in Ex-Combatants Rehab Efforts

ADDIS ABABA – The National Rehabilitation Commission (NRC) and Ethiopian Civil Society Organizations Council agreed to collaborate in the effort to support ex-combatants to lead a peaceful life rejoining the society.

The NRC aims to support up to 250,000 ex-combatants through its demobilization, rehabilitation, and reintegration (DRR) program developed after was established last January to lead the process.



The Commission on Friday signed the MoU with the Ethiopian CSOs Council to work together in awareness-raising activities and resource mobilization.

The two sides will also partner in areas of capacity building, information exchange, research, and knowledge sharing on the DRR process, according to the MoU.

The MoU underscores the major role CSOs can play in the efforts of bringing an end to ex-combatants’ involvement in armed forces and return to civilian life rejoining society.

The CSO Council says the agreement will play a major role in establishing a cooperative relationship for effective rehabilitation and reintegration to ensure lasting peace.

The council – an independent institution mandated to operate in Ethiopia on behalf of all CSOs, currently has more than 4,700 Civil Society Organizations as its members.
