PM Abiy Appoints New Federal Auditor General, Deputy

ADDIS ABABA – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on Friday announced new appointments to federal positions including a new Federal Auditor General.

Abiy has named Meseret Damtie as a head of the Federal Office of the Auditor General (OFAG), the PM Office said.



The post has been vacant since the previous Auditor General, Gemechu Dubiso, left after his term ended in July 2021. Gemechu served as Federal Auditor General for more than 12 years.

Meseret is prompted from deputy Auditor position to become Ethiopia’s Auditor General.

Her previous post has been taken up by Abera Tadesse, who was a Director of Education and Training Directorate at the OFAG.

The new management will be in charge of the Office of the Federal Auditor General office whose task is overseeing the audit reporting compliance of public institutions.

The office is also mandated to identify the existing gaps in the audit report compliance requirements and procedures and report the findings to parliament.

Apart from the latest appintments to the two top posts at the OFAG, Abiy has also named Ambassador Redwan Hussien as a National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister with the rank of Minister.

Ambassador Redwan has been a State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia since 27 December 2019.



The latest round of appointments also saw Khalid Abdurahiman become supervisor position of mega projects at the Prime Minister Office with a rank of state minister.

The PM also named Wondimu Seta and Henok Worku as State minister of Ministry of Urban and Infrastructure development, and Deputy Director-General of Petroleum and Energy Authority, respectively.
