ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has held talks with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky.
On Thursday afternoon, PM Abiy said he spoke with President Zelensky over the phone to discuss bilateral and international matters of mutual interest with Zelensky.
The pair also spoke about “the means and ways of bringing peace between Ukraine and Russia,” Abiy said in a tweet.
The Russia-Ukraine war – both major wheat and rapeseed exporters – caused a challenge to global food security.
A recent impasse over the renewal of a UN-brokered deal allowing cargo ships to sail along a corridor in the Black Sea, after it expired on July 17.
On Tuesday, African Union Commission chairperson Mousa Faki Mahamat expressed his “regret over the suspension of the Black Sea Grain initiative”.
“I urge parties to resolve any issues to resume the continued safe passage of grains and fertilizer from Ukraine and Russia to where it is needed, particularly in Africa,” Mahamat said.
