ADDIS ABABA – Getachew Mengiste has been appointed as new head of Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority (ECAA), says the authority.
The ECAA said Getachew was named as Director-general of the Authority by the Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on Thursday.
He replaced Col. Wesenyeleh Hunegnaw who served as head of the Aviation Authority since 2009.
Prior to his new position, Getachew served as state minister of transport of Ethiopia. He is now in charge of the Authority responsible for the regulation of aviation security in the East African nation.
Apart from the new director-general, Prime Minister Abiy also appointed Mengistu Nigussie as Deputy Director-General in charge of Air Navigation.
The Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority, set up under the oversight of the Ministry of Transport, has a history of over 50 years, making it one of the oldest civil aviation authorities in Africa.
