ADDIS ABABA – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has launched a national development campaign, which focuses on nutritional food, in Arba Minich City.
Named as Yelemat Tirufat, the PM says the campaign “focuses on nutritional opulence”.
The campaign is about getting adequate nutritional food, says the PM.
“Food self-sufficiency is directly linked to national sovereignty and dignity,” he continues. “‘𝙔𝙚𝙇𝙚𝙢𝙖𝙩 𝙏𝙞𝙧𝙪𝙛𝙖𝙩’ campaign accelerates our efforts to achieve food self-sufficiency at the family and national levels.”
The development campaign will be implemented across Ethiopia for the next 4 years.
Its goals include increasing export earnings, ensuring food and nutrition security, and domestically substituting imported products.
At the launching event, several officials pledged to take over its coordination at regional level.
Prime Minister Abiy began his working visit to SNNP Region’s Gamo zone on Tuesday along with senior federal and regional government officials.
On Wednesday, the PM met with the residents of the Chencha district, where he visited farms and weaving handicraft products exhibition.
Abiy commended their work as well as “peaceful and reconciliatory” cultures while adressing the residents.
“If we, too, sweat for peace and contribute to the reconstruction of war-ravaged areas, we will gain rather than lose,” he said.
