ADDIS ABABA – Safaricom Ethiopia has surpassed 1 million active customers on its network, in less than ninety of launching its network in the country.
Ethiopia’s first private telecom service provider has registered an average of 20,000 customers per day since it commenced city-by-city customer pilots in August 2022.
On Wednesday, the telco connected its millionth customer from Jimma City, one of the 17 cities where Safaricom’s network is switched on.
The customer pledged to award the millionth customer 100,000 Birr worth of Safaricom Airtime, one Samsung Phone, five Safaricom Kerefa phones, and five Safaricom M-31 Mifi devices to share with family and friends.
“We are delighted that we have reached the one million customer milestone,” said Safaricom Ethiopia’s CEO Anwar Soussa.
“As we continue our phased commercial launch, we are receiving positive feedback about the 4G data experience on our network and are excited to continue working towards serving all of Ethiopia,” the CEO added.
The company vowed to continue investing in infrastructure, partnerships and the network rollout.
“We will reach more cities and build our network in accordance with the obligations of the Unified Telecommunications Services License,” the company said.
