ADDIS ABABA – President Sahle-Work Zewde held discussions with Algerian Transport Minister Youcef Chofra on enhancing the bilateral relations of the two countries.
The Algerian minister came to Ethiopia onboard Air Algerie’s inaugural flight to Addis Ababa on Friday.
The air service was launched a year after the presidents of the two countries agreed on direct flights between their capitals.
President Sahlework expressed her satisfaction to see the inaugural flight happen during the meeting with the Algerian transport minister.
Sahlework discussed the opportunity to enhance trade, investment, and tourism, per the President’s office.
The meeting was attended by Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Algeria Nebiat Getachew.
Friday’s “historic flight opens a new chapter in the decades-old political and diplomatic relations between Algeria and Ethiopia,” Ambassador Nebiat said.
The two countries are expected to discuss the details on regular flights between Algiers and Addis Ababa at the end of October 2023.
