Three bishops are no longer under the Tewhado synod’s condemnation

After today’s gathering, the Synod of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Church declared that it was retracting its condemnation of Abune Sawiros, Abune Eostatheos, and Abune Zenamarkos.

The Synod has revealed that 20 illegally ordained former monks have withdrawn their previous condemnation and reinstated their former priesthood after reviewing the letter they submitted under the Prime Minister’s supervision, in accordance with the agreement reached between the Synod and the three bishops on March 24. The remaining five ex-monks are urged by the Synod to comply with its summons and turn in their letters.

The synod declared that the condemnation of the bishops and the unlawful appointees should not have been withdrawn, but that it was necessary to do so in order to maintain the church’s long-term peace and unity and to take into account the earlier 10-point agreement.
