“We call upon you to stand against the Amhara Genocide and crime against humanity.” STOP SAMHARA GENOCIDE, a letter to British government Amara Media Center/Amima… July 24, 2014 Addis Ababa Showa STOP SAMHARA GENOCIDE IN ETHIOPIA It was Famine then, it is Genocide now-A call for the British Government to save Amharas from State Sponsored Genocide. The British people have historically been with Ethiopians in their times of crisis. During the Second World War, when Italy invaded Ethiopia, his imperial majesty took refuge in the United Kingdom as British forces joined arms with the Ethiopian people to liberate Ethiopia with enormous sacrifices. From 1983 to 1985, there was a great famine in Ethiopia that the Marxist government of Ethiopia was reluctant to expose. Instead it was the British media led by Mikael Burke and Mohammed Amin who entered Ethiopia without the knowledge of the government and filmed the agonizing truth of people dying of famine. The 23 minute footage captured by this team shook the conscience of the world and received an overwhelming public response. Since World War II, the world had not responded to an humanitarian crisis with such urgency and sincere concern. The British led the global response to the crisis with the US following and every other European country participating. Singer Bob Gildof and his band sang the song “Do they know it is Xmas” to raise funds for those affected by the famine. The song reverberated across the globe successfully persuading people to donate what they had. Some British families sold their belongings to contribute to the victims of famine. The British government sent thousands of tons of food, medical supplies and experts and several airplanes from the Royal Airforce to help distribute the food. As recorded in books and articles the government and the parliament united its efforts, mobilized all its resources, like it did during the Second World War, and became the lead country to participate in this global humanitarian operation to save the lives of our people. We have a living witness to this: the man who was the head of the operation Commissioner of the Relief and Rehabilitation then, who has chronicled this historic operation, in his book Red Tears, as the largest humanitarian operation since the Second World War and in this the British took the international lead. We take this opportunity to express our gratitude once again and we at the same time want to remind you today that Ethiopia is in another more brutal crisis and calls upon the people of the UK, our traditional allies in crisis, to help Ethiopians, specifically the Amhara people from the scourge of genocide and crimes against humanity perpetrated by its own government. We call upon you to stand against the Amhara Genocide and crime against humanity. We ask you to use your influence in the the UN and the EU to stop the genocide and crimes against the children and great grand children of Amharas saved by your compassion and support in the 1980s. Make your voice heard !!!! Demand accountability!!! Send investigation teams to Oromia, Benishangul Gumuz, and Shewa.!!!! We challenge the British media!!! Explore the Truth!!! Push the UN HRC to take urgent steps!!!! People are dying in thousands every week since this PM took power three years ago. We plead to your sense of fairness and fierce stand that you have demonstrated against human rights violations across the world. Show the Ethiopian people that you are with them like you were in the past. We have trust in your ability to mobilize the world and in your own effort to make sure that the UN does what is expected from it.
