WHO Ethiopia Begins Distributing Medical Supplies in Tigray

ADDIS ABABA – The World Health Organisation’s Ethiopian office has commenced distributing over 70 metric tons of medical supplies to health facilities in Tigray regional state.

Humanitarian groups started delivering aid supplies following the signing of a cessation of hostilities agreement between the federal government and TPLF last month.

Under the peace deal, the government pledged to work with Humanitarian agencies to expedite the provision of aid.

On Sunday, the WHO Ethiopia said it has begun distributing medical supplies to health facilities and partners in north-western Tigray.

The medical supplies are expected to serve 2.3 million people for three months.

“The supplies from WHO and Ethiopia Health Ministry were cleared rapidly for passage through the newly opened humanitarian corridors,” the WHO Ethiopia said.

The UN health agency also said it has deployed 9 international experts to support the health response operations in Tigray.

Six experts are deployed to Mekelle while the other 3 are stationed to Shire, taking advantage of the open access and rapid clearance, according to the WHO Ethiopia.
